Baldwins Training has been initialised to raise the standard of practical ability and operational awareness within the industry ultimately reducing the frequency of accidents in and around the lifting operation.
We can offer open or dedicated courses on any subject within the boundaries of the lifting operation and related fields.

All of the above courses are delivered to a standard that will ensure our customer’s workforce is highly trained and their knowledge will comply with the exacting standards of BS 7121 and the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998.
Appointed Person (Lifting Operation)
The appointed person is the person responsible for ensuring a safe system of work during a lifting operation, this was introduced in BS 7121, Part 1.
Following BS 7121 will ensure that as a company you will be following the guidelines laid down in the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998.
Our Appointed Person course will furnish your candidate with the necessary knowledge and skills to plan a lift from start to finish ensuring a safe system of work to be followed. On successful completion of the course the candidate will be able to choose the correct crane through a process of investigation and accurate measurement and ensure a safe system of work established via the process of risk assessment and planning to produce an accurate Method of executing the lift.
Baldwins Training recommend that the candidate has at least 2 years experience within the lifting industry; this however does not restrict any candidate without the experience to join the course.

Crane Supervisor
The crane supervisor is defined as the competent person responsible for supervising the lifting operation. They will ensure the safe system of work defined by the appointed person.
The appointed person has overall responsibility for the lifting operation and can stop it at any time but can pass this authority to the crane supervisor in their absence
Baldwins crane supervisor course will enable your employees to carry out a lifting operation as directed by the method statement and have the presence of mind to demand the safest practices from any of the support staff.
Ideally the candidate should have operational lifting experience before entering on to the course but is not a prerequisite to joining

Mobile Crane Operator
The crane operator’s role is very important and requires a high level of skill. The operator must be able to carry out pre operational checks to ensure the machinery is in good working order. Rig and De-rig the crane as per the manufacturer’s instructions. Position the crane appropriately as directed by the method statement and be able to work safely at all times.
On completion of the course the candidates will be able to rig, de-rig and operate the crane safely and to manufacturer’s guidelines. They will also be aware of the operational dangers of using a mobile crane on site. Candidates will have a thorough knowledge of the legislation that accompanies the lifting operation enabling them to work as safely and efficiently as possible.

Slinger/Signaller
The role of the slinger/signaller during a lifting operation is very important. They will be responsible for checking the lifting accessories being used are the ones required by the Method Statement and they are in serviceable order for the lift. They will also make sure of the correct attachment of the load to the lifting machinery and ensure the crane operator is directed suitably throughout the lift.
If considered competent to do so the slinger/signaller can assume the role of the crane supervisor if instructed by the Appointed Person.
On completion of the course the candidate will have a practical and theoretical knowledge of slinging methods and be able to direct the crane confidently. They will know about the physical limitations of lifting accessories and how to interpret sling load charts.
